Prof. Geert De Schutter

It was great!

Indeed, SCC2007, held in Ghent from 3 to 5 September 2007, was a great event. Based on the very positive reactions we received during and after the symposium, the attendees enjoyed both the technical content of the symposium as well as the social activities. Also the city of Ghent was a positive surprise to many of the attendees.

We had over 160 oral presentations and 30 poster presentations. Over 310 registered attendees contributed to lively and interesting discussions during the sessions as well as afterwards during coffee en lunch breaks. All papers were nicely bundled in the 3-volume proceedings. The proceedings are still available from the Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research (see elsewhere on this website).

I thank all the authors and presenters, for submitting and presenting the interesting contributions. I thank all the conference delegates, for attending the symposium and making it a fruitfull event with interesting discussions.

I thank all the sponsors for their generous support. Without this support, a symposium of this size and quality would never have been possible. I thank RILEM for their support in organising this symposium.

I thank the members of the honoray advisory committee, of the technical committee, and of the advisory committee of SCC2007.

I thank our conference secretaries, Marijke and Christel, for the great job they did! I hope they enjoyed the flowers they received during the symposium dinner in the "Castle of the Counts".

I thank all the doctoral students, research assistents, and technical staff of the Magnel Laboratory for concrete Research, for their assistance during this symposium.

And finally, I would like to thank two of my post-doctoral researchers, for the huge amount of work they completed during the preparation of the symposium, and during the activities of RILEM Technical Committee 205-DSC on Durability of Self-Compacting Concrete: Dr. Veerle Boel and Dr. Katrien Audenaert. Their contribution to the success of this symposium and to the activities of TC 205-DSC was significant.

I am sure we will meet again in Sherbrooke, Canada, for the 6th International RILEM Symposium on SCC, as well as during other major SCC events!

With my best regards,
Geert De Schutter.
